Description

Gorstage Hall is a large house dating from the early to mid-19th century, with a substantially remodelled interior from the late 20th century. Constructed of white-pointed Flemish bond orange brick with red sandstone dressings, the building has a hipped Welsh slate roof and brick chimneys. The main garden facade is square in plan, symmetrical, and features two bays. It has a stone plinth, chamfered rusticated quoins, a sill band at the first floor level, and a delicate moulded band below a modillion cornice. The garden front consists of two two-storey canted bays, with deep windows in simply moulded stone architraves incorporating keyblocks on each face. Upper windows are 12-pane sashes in similar architraves, but are missing the keyblocks. The entrance facade, on the right, was rendered following the demolition of a former wing but incorporates similar architectural details to create a symmetrical three-bay front with architraves to the windows and an inserted main door. The interior has been completely remodelled with 20th-century fittings, incorporating some reused elements. A former servants’ wing to the rear, now a separate dwelling, is not considered of special interest.
