Description
A pair of cottages dating from around 1855, likely designed by James Harrison. The cottages are constructed of Flemish bond brown brick with grey slate roofs. They are two storeys high with a pair of front-gabled bays, flanked by porch bays. A plinth runs along the base. A porch with a tiled lean-to roof has been added to number 15. Each cottage features a canted bay window with a four-over-eight-over-four-pane design, and number 17 has a four-panel door with a radial-bar fanlight. An added single-storey wing is present on the right-hand side. A sixteen-pane recessed sash window is visible on the first floor of each cottage. The cottages have bargeboards and two plinthed chimneys on the party wall. A blocked opening is located on the flank of the main bay of number 15, and number 17 has a twelve-pane sash window. The end of number 15 features two two-pane sash windows, whilst number 17 has a twelve-pane sash window to each side of a blank opening. The interiors have not been inspected. Together with numbers 2-18 and 1-13 Victoria Pathway, these cottages form an unusual example of mid-19th century suburban planning, which is comparable to mid-20th century Radburn layouts, with a footpath serving the fronts of the cottages and vehicular streets to the rear.
