Description
A pair of cottages at 3 and 5 Victoria Pathway, built in 1852, and likely designed by James Harrison. The cottages are constructed of Flemish bond brown brick with a graded grey slate roof. They are two storeys high, featuring a pair of front-gabled bays flanked by porch bays. A plinth is present. The front sash window to the far left has been replaced. A stone step leads to a four-panel door with a three-pane radial-bar fanlight set within a round brick arch; a canted bay window is present in each cottage, featuring painted stone sills and 3;6;3-pane sashes. A blocked window is visible on the flank of the main bay. A half-glazed four-panel door with a blocked fanlight has replaced the original. The first floor has a 16-pane sash window to the front bedroom of each cottage. The fenestration on the left end is likely replaced, while the right end displays three recessed 12-pane sashes on each floor. All sashes have painted stone sills and gauged-brick flat arches. The rear of the cottages features ground floor alterations and two 16-pane sashes under dormer gables. The interiors were not inspected. Together with numbers 2 to 18 and 7 to 17 Victoria Pathway, the cottages represent an unusual mid-19th century suburban planning scheme, reminiscent of mid-20th century Radburn layouts, which incorporate a footpath serving the frontages of the cottages and vehicular access at the rear.
