Description
A pair of suburban houses dating from around 1850, likely designed by James Harrison. The buildings are constructed of orange-brown brick with grey slate roofs. They are arranged symmetrically, with a projecting bay window on each side of a pair of central bays. Small, deeply recessed two-storey porch bays are situated at each end.
Number 6 has a pointed-arched door of two rows of three panels within its unaltered porch. Its bay window is mullioned with six lights, featuring a painted stone sill, plinthed corner posts, and a transom formed as St Andrew's crosses, with three-pane sashes. The fenestration is mirrored on Number 4. The hipped fishscale roofs of the bay windows have lead edging. The porch of Number 4 has been enclosed.
The first floor windows are arched casements. Each house has two arched casements with a single horizontal bar and tracery resembling king post trusses. Gabled ends flank the bays, and dormer gables are positioned over the inner windows. There are three ridge chimneys, each with separated flues. At each end, two two-pane windows are located on the ground floor behind the porch, and a two-pane Y-tracery window is on the first floor.
Inside Number 6, there is a curved open-well staircase with open string and stick balusters. The doors are four-panelled with stop-chamfered stiles and rails. The interior of Number 4 was not inspected.
