Description
Nos. 11 and 13 Victoria Pathway are a pair of cottages built around 1855, likely designed by James Harrison. They are constructed of Flemish bond brown brick and topped with a grey slate roof. The cottages are two stories high and feature a pair of front-gabled bays, with porch bays on either side.
Each cottage has a plinth and a door made up of four fielded panels, which is accessed via a lean-to porch supported by brackets. There is a canted bay window for each cottage; however, the glazing bars have been removed from No. 11, while No. 13 retains sashes with a configuration of four, eight, and four panes. The first-floor windows in the main bay of both cottages include a sash, with the glazing bars removed from No. 11 and a 16-pane sash in No. 13.
The cottages also feature decorative bargeboards and two plinthed chimneys located on the party wall. The left side of No. 11 has two sashes on the ground floor and three on the first floor, all with removed glazing bars, while the right side of No. 13 has 12-pane sashes. The interiors have not been inspected.
Together with Nos. 2-18, 3-9, and 15 and 17 Victoria Pathway, these cottages represent an unusual example of mid-19th century suburban planning, similar to mid-20th century Radburn layouts, with a footpath in front of the cottages and vehicular access to the rear.
