Description

Prospect House is a house, likely built in the 1830s, that was later extended and converted into a doctor's residence with a surgery and dispensary in the early 20th century. It features Flemish bond brown brickwork and a truncated pyramidal roof covered with graded grey slate. The building has three storeys and a symmetrical front with three windows.

An early 20th-century flat-roofed single-storey extension at the front includes a porch with an attached bay window, which has three 12-pane sash windows on each side. The entrance door is adorned with ornate leaded glazing in the upper panel and has two side-lights, along with a rectangular three-pane overlight. Access is via three stone steps with urn-topped iron rails. The upper storeys are fitted with 12-pane flush sash windows that have shouldered wedge lintels and projecting stone cills. The eaves are dentilled, and there is a square flat platform at the center of the roof, where a former iron railing and small glazed chamber have been removed.

At the rear, there is a prominently designed Edwardian surgery and dispensary wing made of brown and red brick, along with a small early 20th-century extension on the right end. Inside, the house features an oak stair that has one flight per storey with winders at the top, along with swept rails and curtails, and stick balusters. The lower two storeys have six-panel doors, while the upper storey has five-panel doors and two broad-boarded doors. The Edwardian extension includes a well-crafted stair with three round arches supported by slender, square classical posts that create a "bridge" landing, all made of polished hardwood. The dispensary retains its Edwardian fittings, including a medicine-lift, which is a notable and rare feature.
