Description

This is a pair of houses, originally three bays wide on the entrance front, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The houses are built with red Flemish bond brick, stone dressings, and a slate roof, and are now occupied by shops on the ground floor. A stone band separates the ground and first floors. The central door has a moulded pediment and a fanlight over a six-panel door. A 20th-century bow window occupies the right-hand side of the front, and a late 19th or early 20th-century shop window occupies the left-hand two bays. The first floor has an arched sash window at the centre, with stone springers, a keystone and a heavy stone lintel. Flanking this are late 19th or early 20th-century oriel bow windows, each supported on a single moulded bracket with wedge lintels and keystones indicating earlier window openings. The second floor features a cambered-headed window at the centre, with a stone sill, heavy lintel and a pedimental gable above. Two-light windows are positioned on either side, with stone coping to the top of the wall. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
