Description
Walnut Tree Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered and extended. It is built of coursed rubble sandstone, with the front and left end entirely pebbledashed, while the extension is made of painted brick. The roofs are covered with graded grey slate. The building is T-shaped, featuring two and a half storeys in the left wing, two storeys in the right wing, and a projecting front wing that is also two storeys high, each wing having one window. There are three rendered chimneys: one on the ridge at the junction of the central and left wing, one behind the ridge, and one projecting from the gable of the left wing.
The upper storey of the right end gable has a five-light mullioned window, with the two outer lights blocked. A hollow-moulded stone band runs along the first floor of the right wing, and similar bands encased in pebbledash are found above the windows of each storey in the front wing gable. The windows in the front gable, the front and end gable of the left wing, and the third storey right end gable of the left wing, as well as three windows at the rear, are small-pane casements of mid-19th century style, while other windows have been replaced in keeping with the original design.
Inside, the rear central room features an inglenook with damaged ovolo-moulded sandstone sides and a cambered ovolo oak bressumer. The interior also includes chamfered oak beams and some oak small framing, although the stairs have been replaced.
