Description

Tanyard Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse with a rear extension dating to around 1800. The main structure is built of squared, tooled, coursed sandstone blocks of large size. A brick wing extends to the rear and right, and the roof is covered in grey slate. The original two-storey, two-window front has a four-light recessed mullioned window on the lower floor. The slightly recessed upper storey, marked by a weathered band, has three-light windows; the right-hand window has recessed mullions, while the left-hand window is flush-mullioned. A three-light flush-mullioned window is in the left end gable's upper storey. A central brick chimney sits just behind the roof ridge. The brick wing projecting to the right is constructed in a red-brown English garden wall bond and has vernacular wood casements in its end gable. Inside, a lobby gives access to the interior; there is a stone inglenook fireplace with an oak bressumer, one heavy chamfered oak beam, and one oak broad-boarded door still hanging on its original gudgeons.
