Description
Fields Farm is a house located on Malpas Road (B5395) in Agden, dating from the early 17th century and partly encased in brick, likely during the mid-19th century. The structure features oak framing and brick with a slate roof and stands two storeys tall. The front cross-wing has brick-nogged small framing with heavy timbers set on a brick and stone plinth, while the open side of the cross-wing has been rebuilt in painted brick. Each storey of the gable includes a rail, and the end truss displays a chamfered jettied tie-beam, central post, collar, and angled struts. Some of the low-level gable wall has been replaced with painted brickwork. The right wing has a charming mid-Victorian appearance, featuring cream brick camber arches over the lower window openings and two finialled gabled half-dormers, but it encases a 17th-century wing that originally had a lobby entrance. There are two brick chimneys located at the junction of the ridges and on the ridge of the right wing. The interior has not been inspected, but an inglenook and stopped ovolo oak beams can be seen in the right wing.
