Description
The footpath guidepost located 5 meters north of Top Lodge is a late 19th-century structure. It features a cast-iron, slightly tapering octagonal shaft set on a plinth. The shaft is inscribed in plain raised lettering with the text "WIRRAL FOOTPATHS ETC. PRESERVATION SOCIETY BY PERMISSION OF THE COUNCIL," and on the rear, it bears the maker's name, "W H SMITH & CO. WHITCHURCH." The guidepost has a moulded top with a ball finial and carries a single fingerplate with nicked corners that reads "PUBLIC FOOTPATH TO SHOTWICK KEEP TO THE PATH."
