Description

Hawthorn Dene and Lilac Cottage is a former farmhouse, now divided into two houses, dating from the early 18th century with later extensions added to the rear and right side, along with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in English bond and English garden wall bond, topped with a Welsh slate roof and featuring three brick chimneys. It has a double-pile plan and is three storeys high with a nearly symmetrical three-bay front. There is a brick band at the first floor and a simple brick cornice. The windows are three-light casements with a transom, set under segmental brick heads, while the top storey has simpler windows. The central wooden doorcase includes a fanlight with vertical glazing bars and a five-panelled door. The extension to the right is two storeys tall and now functions as a separate house, featuring similar casements and an added gabled porch on the right side. Inside, heavy ceiling beams are visible in Hawthorn Dene.
