Description

This stable, shippon, and barn, located 10 meters northwest of Crowley Green Cottage, likely dates from the mid-17th century and was altered by the Arley estate in the late 19th century. The structure features a brick-nogged oak frame, which has been partly rebuilt and extended in brick, topped with grey slate roofs. It surrounds three sides of a small open-fronted yard.

On the left side, the brick barn includes a shallow threshing porch above full-height double doors, two rows of loophole vents, and three in the front gable. There is a divided door on the inner side near the front, a loading door in the gable, a boarded door, and an altered opening on the outer face. The rear wing has a cart door on the left, two divided doors, and two loading doors in the dormer gables, along with three loophole vents and one casement window in a wall of oak small framing that has been partly rebuilt in brick.

The right wing features a truncated full cruck truss in the front gable, with oak small framing on the outer face and diagonal braces beneath the eaves at each corner. It has a loading door in the gable, two boarded doors, and two loophole vents on the inner face. The crucks are halved for a removed collar, and the framed walls rest on a sandstone plinth, while the rear face has been rebuilt in brick.
