Description
Bay Bush is a house that was originally a longhouse farmstead from the 17th century. It has been altered and extended on both sides in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from painted squared rubble sandstone and features a grey slate roof, which was previously thatched, with a single stone ridge chimney. The central section of the house is one and a half storeys high and has two windows. The right extension consists of one bay and matches the height of the central section, while the left side, which was formerly a shippon, has been raised to two full storeys. The extensions are rendered. The windows are small pane casements, and there are two gabled dormers added in the late 20th century. There is a boarded door at the junction of the house and the former shippon, and a former lobby entrance, now blocked, is located opposite the chimney at the right end of the 17th-century portion. Inside, the main room features a restored stone ingle-nook on the right, a central queenpost truss made of oak, and a substantial amount of oak framing on the left wall.
