Description
Barn House, formerly known as Barnhill House, is a late Georgian house that incorporates what was once Barnhill Cottage. It features a long wing to the right, likely added in the early 20th century, which was previously a separate dwelling. The Georgian section is constructed of brick on a sandstone plinth, all painted white, and topped with a hipped grey slate roof that has two symmetrically placed brick chimneys. The house is 2½ storeys high and has three windows.
An Ionic portico with a flat entablature frames the entrance door, which has four raised and fielded panels. On either side of the portico, there are two-storey canted bays made of brick, each containing three-light sash windows; the center lights have 12 panes, while the side lights have six panes. Above each bay, there is a gabled dormer featuring a 12-pane two-light casement. Above the portico, a 12-pane recessed sash window is located on the second storey, with a fixed light of 12 small panes on the third storey. The right wing matches the main structure but lacks any notable features.
Inside, there is a straight staircase with square newels and two turned balusters per step. Additionally, two wide doors with two large panels each remain intact on the ground floor.
