Description
This is a terrace of five houses, originally numbered 77 to 85, now containing shops on the ground floor. They were built in the mid to late 18th century. The exterior is red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stone dressings and a slate roof. The terrace stands three storeys high.
The front of the building has six bays. There’s a band running along the wall at the level of the first-floor window sills. The original windows have wedge-shaped lintels. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the wall. To the right are two original house facades with deep stone plinths featuring moulded tops. Each of these has a doorway to the right, accessed by a flight of four steps. The doorways have panelled surrounds and doors consisting of six raised and fielded panels, topped with a dentilled pediment. To the left of each door is a sash window with 3 x 4 panes. A similar house front is located to the left of the centre. To the far right, there is a 20th-century shop front constructed from glass and brick, with lateral buttresses and concrete offsets. A shop front with a canted bay window is positioned in the centre. The first floor has sash windows with 3 x 4 panes in the first, second, fourth and sixth bays. The third and fifth bays feature tripartite windows, with a central sash of 3 x 4 panes and side lights of 2 x 4 panes. A similar design is present on the second floor. There are five stacks located on the ridge of the roof.
