Description
The Willows is a former dower house for Mollington Hall, later used as a farmhouse, and now a house. It is believed to have been built in 1684, with later alterations and additions from the 18th century and mid-19th century. The building features rough cast brickwork, a Welsh slate roof, and two brick chimneys. It is designed in a near double-pile plan and stands 2½ stories tall with a four-bay south front. The second and fourth bays contain 12-pane sash windows, with the uppermost windows set in gabled half-dormers. The third bay has a pair of glazed doors at the original entrance, accompanied by a 12-pane sash window and a setting for a now-missing datestone above. The left end bay has an addition that projects on the ground floor, featuring a 16-pane sash window and a 12-pane sash window above. The entrance is located at the left end, adorned with a mid-19th century gabled hood. The right end of the building has a blocked three-light rebated chamfered stone mullion window. Inside, the main rooms are characterized by heavy ceiling beams and moulded plaster cornices, some of which are original from the late 17th century. The rear extension includes an old dairy with slate staging and a four-board door with iron strap hinges, as well as an old cellar with stone steps.
