Description
Crabwall Hall is a former house that has been converted into a hotel and club. It dates from the 18th century, with a facade added and remodelings done in the early 19th century, and alterations to the fenestration and interior around 1900. The building is constructed of Flemish bond orange brick with yellow headers and red sandstone dressings, topped with a graduated Welsh slate roof and featuring three brick chimneys. Designed in a Tudor-Gothick style, it has a two-storey, symmetrical, three-bay south front with a stone plinth. The corners of the building are accentuated by octagonal brick towers that are castellated above a stone cornice adorned with ball ornaments. The central bay features a projecting, castellated two-storey porch with diagonal buttresses. The entrance has a four-centred arched doorcase flanked by a cluster of colonnettes, leading to a pair of half-glazed doors with cusped tracery. Above this, there is a similar tracery in the mullioned and transomed window, which is set under a stone lintel and brick hood mould. A heraldic plaque displaying three mallets is also present. The remaining bays have similar three-light windows below. The interior has not been fully inspected, but it features rooms panelled in an early 20th-century style, with no heavy Tudor styling evident.
