Description

Knolls Bridge, also known as canal bridge number 131, is a canal accommodation bridge built in 1793 by Thomas Telford for the Ellesmere Canal Company. The bridge is constructed of orange brick and features a flat horseshoe elliptical arch. Above the arch is a plain band that extends over short, curving wing walls, which terminate in raking plain pilasters. The bridge has a plain parapet, with some surviving chamfered stone coping. This structure represents the standard design for bridges on this canal. In the 20th century, repairs were made to the parapet.
