Description
Providence Cottage is a cottage, likely built in the 1880s for Rowland Egerton Warburton. It is constructed of brown brick with a clay tile roof and stands two storeys high. The front features one window with a gable, and the cottage is situated at the back of an open garden court off Church Street, which also provides access to Providence House.
The lower storey has a 5-light red-brick mullioned window, while the upper storey features a similar 4-light window. Each window has a round-arched plaster panel above each light. The building includes moulded brick bands and buttresses at the corners. The gable displays projecting red brick diapering and lozenge-shaped plastered panels.
To the left, there is a lateral 1-storey loggia with an oak-framed front on a brick plinth, featuring an entrance on the left and a brick back wall with a basket-arched opening on the right. This opening leads across a small paved yard to a door with 6 fielded panels in the 1-storey left wing. A 3-metre screen wall of brick to the right of the cottage connects with Providence House. The cottage contributes to an excellent villagescape. The interior could not be inspected.
