Description
The Methodist Church, built in the mid-19th century, was designed for Rowland Egerton Warburton. It is constructed of brown brick in an English garden wall bond, with a grey slate roof. The chapel is a simple rectangular shape, with a small service wing set at a right angle on the south side. The main entrance features double doors, each composed of three bolection-moulded panels, set within a recessed round-arched opening, preceded by two stone steps. Above the doors is a sash window with 30 panes, set within a painted stone lintel and projecting cill. A round-arched fixed light is located in the west end of the building. A similar sash window appears at the rear, alongside the service wing. The east end has two round-arched fixed lights.
The interior is plastered and retains its original, complete pine furnishings. A dado runs two panels high. There are six fixed pews on each side of the aisle, with the three rearmost tiers being tiered. A rail leads to a dais at the east end, featuring turned balusters and chamfered posts. The central portion of the rail curves outwards in front of the minister's desk, which has shaped panels, end posts topped with ornate turned knobs, and a round-topped backboard on the wall behind. The church is a well-preserved example of its type, retaining its original appearance both internally and externally. It was likely influenced in its design and workmanship by Rowland Egerton Warburton, who contributed to its construction.
