Description
The Old Smithy is a cottage dating from the mid 17th century, which has been cased in brick, likely in the 19th century. It features painted brickwork, mostly in stretcher bond, and has a grey slate roof. The building is one storey plus an attic and has two windows. The entrance door consists of four broad boards that are adze-finished on the inner face. The lower storey includes one 6-pane window and one 4-pane window, while the attic has a gabled dormer with a casement window of three panes. The right gable-end has a casement window with two panes on the upper storey and a plinthed flush chimney on each gable. There is a rear wing that is flush with the right gable-end. Inside, there are a pair of damaged full crucks against the right gable, another similar pair (one truncated) to the right of the doorway, some oak beams, broad-board doors, and HL- and blacksmith-made strap hinges.
