Description
The Lodge at Beeston Castle is a castle gateway built in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed from snecked sandstone rubble and stands two storeys high. The front facing the road features a Bartizan arrangement, with a central recessed flat wall flanked by circular walls on either side. In the center, there is a pointed arch with a rebate, and above it, a cross window set in a chamfered surround. The circular towers on either side have ground floor windows with 2 x 3 panes, also in chamfered surrounds. The first floor features pointed windows with chamfered surrounds and 2 x 3 panes. All the windows are secured with iron bars. There are extensive 20th-century additions and alterations to the left and rear of the building. The Lodge is listed for its group value with the castle ruins.
