Description

This complex comprises a hall and farm buildings, largely dating from the early 19th century, with extensions around 1930. The hall was formerly a single dwelling and is now subdivided. The layout is a courtyard plan, with domestic buildings on two sides, agricultural buildings extending the western range, and a northern block enclosing the courtyard.

Upton Hall South, the eastern part of the hall, has a front elevation of eight windows. A flat-roofed porch with a round-headed opening serves as the main entrance, located towards the centre of the building. A matching porch has been added to the centre of Upton Hall North, which sits to the right. The south side of Upton Hall South has three full-height sash windows, while Upton Hall North has irregular fenestration with 2-, 4- and 12-pane sashes on the ground floor and 9-, 12- and 15-pane sashes above. The rear wing of Upton Hall North continues as agricultural buildings, originally stables, a byre, and a haybarn. The south return of Upton Hall South features a two-window range, blocked openings, and ground floor extensions. A farmhouse stands beyond, with renewed windows on each floor and a porch to the right. Further single-storey farm buildings for livestock are located beyond.

Within the courtyard, and forming a rear wing of the farmhouse, is a two-storey granary building with an external staircase and a hipped roof. The interior of the hall was extensively remodelled in the 1930s, including the addition of a panelled hall and staircase which date from that time.
