Description
Parkside Lodge, part of Parkside Hospital (Block 57), was built between 1868 and 1871 by Robert Griffiths of Stafford. It is an Italianate-style lodge constructed of red brick with yellow and blue brick and ashlar dressings, topped with half-hipped slate roofs. The design echoes the main hospital buildings. The lodge features a plinth, sill bands, and eaves supported by shaped wooden brackets. It is two storeys high, with a two-window front. The lodge has an L-shaped layout, and the ground floor openings were boarded at the time of survey. The ground floor windows have wedge lintels and keystones. A central gabled porch has a polychrome round-arched opening with a keystone and boarded side openings. To the left of the porch is a window, and above it, a smaller flat-headed casement. To the right is a projecting bay with windows on each floor; the upper window is a segmental-headed casement. The left return also has similar window arrangements. The rear of the lodge includes a yard, outbuildings, and a surrounding wall.
