Description

The former superintendent's house at Parkside Hospital, now a course centre, is a two-storey building constructed of red brick with yellow and blue brick dressings and a hipped slate roof. It features a plinth, sill bands on each floor, and a polychrome eaves band, reflecting an Italianate round arched style similar to the rest of the hospital. The main block has three sets of three windows, with a wider cross wing at the rear. The windows are primarily plain sashes with moulded ashlar surrounds.

The entrance front faces south and includes a projecting central bay with bracketed eaves. It has a rebated doorway with a shaped keystone and a polychrome arch, leading to a panelled door flanked by sidelights and a fanlight. Above the entrance, there is a tiled frieze and a cornice at the first floor, along with a single window. To the right, there is a two-storey cast iron conservatory and balcony, which features a roof that is both glazed and covered. To the left of the entrance, there is a window on each floor.

The left return of the building has a projecting bay with bracketed eaves and a stone balustraded balcony, accompanied by two windows to its right. The cross wing at the rear includes an incomplete curved corridor with a slate roof, which originally connected the house to the ward blocks flanking the hospital's southern courtyard. There are three glazing bar sashes on the first floor of this section.
