GV II

Superintendent's house at mental hospital, now course centre. Red brick, with yellow and blue brick dressings and hipped slate roof. Plinth, sill bands to each floor, polychrome eaves band. Italianate round arched style, like the remainder of the hospital. 2 storeys. Main block, 3 x 3 windows, with wider cross wing at rear. Windows are mainly plain sashes with moulded ashlar surrounds. Entrance front, to south, has a projecting centre bay with bracketed eaves. Rebated doorway with shaped keystone and polychrome arch, panelled door with sidelights and fanlight. Above, a tiled frieze and first floor cornice, and a single window. To right, a cast iron conservatory and balcony, 2 storeys, the balcony roofed and glazed in. To left, a window on each floor. Left return has a projecting bay to left with bracketed eaves and a stone balustraded balcony. To its right, 2 windows. Cross wing has to rear an incomplete curved corridor with slate roof. This originally linked the house with the ward blocks which flank the hospital's southern courtyard. courtyard. 3 glazing bar sashes on the first floor.
