Description

Tower Hill Farm is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of washed, coursed squared buff sandstone rubble with a Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge and two stone chimneys. The building is two and a half storeys high with a three-bay front. The end bays contain three-light wooden casements beneath rough stone lintels. The central bay has a door behind a wooden porch, above which is a two-light and a single light window. Rubble hood moulds are present to the sides and rear.

The interior features stone rubble partitions, with timber-framed party walls filled with stone flags. Most doors are original 17th-century five-panelled doors with reeded rails. A dogleg staircase has a simple handrail, square newels, and no balusters. Original wide boarding is used for panelling and the original roof structure remains.

Attached farm buildings, partly dating to the 17th century and including a shippon dated 1743, are constructed of like materials. They have a Z-shaped plan, forming a former cottage now used as a garage and two shippons. Rectangular openings have wooden or rough stone lintels.
