Description
The School and Schoolmaster's House, built around 1845, is likely designed by C and J Trubshaw. It features Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and a distinctive fishscale roof. The front facing the churchyard has a two-storey projecting wing on the right, which includes ashlar quoins at the corners and a central three-light window with a chamfered ashlar surround, along with a similar two-light window on the first floor. To the left, slightly recessed, is the single-storey school building that has a central three-light window flanked by two-light windows, all with chamfered ashlar surrounds. Further left is a projecting gabled wing with ashlar quoins and a five-light window on the ground floor. Adjacent to this is a later 19th-century and early 20th-century addition, which features a late 20th-century outshut with a flat roof, above which is a gabled dormer window containing two lights, along with another two-light window to the left. The right side of the building serves as the schoolmaster's house, consisting of two bays with a central doorway on the ground floor that has an ashlar surround and a plank door. Flanking the doorway are two-light casement windows with chamfered ashlar surrounds. The first floor has two similar semi-dormer windows set within gablets. The building has ashlar quoins at the corners and at the corner of a slightly recessed section of walling on the right. There is also an extensive 20th-century addition at the rear.
