Description

Deer's Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th or 17th century. It is timber framed, covered with render, and features brick facing from the 18th and 19th centuries, laid in Flemish bond with black headers. The entrance front has a projecting gabled wing on the left side, which dates from the mid to late 18th century. This wing has ashlar quoins at the corners and bands of two bricks in depth between the ground and first floors, as well as between the first floor and attic.

On the ground and first floors, there are three-light casement windows with 20th-century brick lintels, and a blocked window opening in the attic. The left side of the wing includes a doorway on the right and a 20th-century three-light window on the left, with a similar window on the first floor to the left. The right side of the wing has a blocked doorway on the left.

To the left of this wing is a recessed section with timber-framed walling that is covered with pebbledashed render, but it has an exposed ashlar plinth. To the right of the wing is another recessed section with brick walling of two different constructions; the right side has black headers, while the left does not, but both have a projecting brick band between the floors. The ground floor features two doorways and two three-light casement windows, with two similar windows on the first floor.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered ceiling beams in three ground floor rooms, which have decorative end-stops, and chamfered rafters between them. The sitting room has small framed walling and an ingle-nook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. There is also another ingle-nook fireplace with a bread oven to one side.
