Description

Upper Moorcroft Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th or 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and mid-19th century. It features Flemish-bond brickwork with flush stone quoins on the front, and part of the rear is close-studded with brick-nogged timber framing. The roof is tiled.

The front of the building has three windows and is 2 1/2 storeys tall, with a depth of one room and a rear wing on the left. The front includes an ashlar plinth, a sash window with wide glazing bars on the right, a cambered head, stepped stone voussoirs, and a projecting keystone. To the right of the centre, there is a single-storey, gabled late 20th-century brick porch with a half-glazed door and a two-light metal casement window on the returns. To the left, there is a 16-pane sash window with narrow glazing bars, similar to the window on the right.

On the first floor, there are three irregularly spaced 16-pane sash windows with flat heads, otherwise matching the details below. The building has a plain parapet with parapet gables at both ends and an off-centre gable to the right on the front, the latter featuring an oval window with a plain stone surround and four projecting keys. There are ridge chimneys at each end and one bay from the left. The right return has brickwork that has been renewed to halfway up the first floor, with older brickwork above, showing the outline of a chimney. The rear right side, as viewed from the front, displays timber-framing. The interior has not been inspected, but it is said that the farmhouse was once an inn.
