Description

HIGHNAM SO 7819-7919 9/34 Bridge and dam over lake near Chepstow Lodge, Highnam Court GV II Bridge and dam. Mid C19 for T. Gambier-Parry. English bond brickwork, ashlar balustrade, course, squared stone below arch. Wide central section with narrower side. Downstream elevation, 2 piers each side central opening, segmental blue brick arch over. Smaller, rectangular opening near top of arch, infilled stone to form dam and cascade. Above moulded stone base, balustrade in 3 lengths with plain piers, moulded stone cap. Bridge formed part of garden work around house, carrying drive from Chepstow Lodge over foot of lake. Forms group with Highnam Court and terraces, (q.v.).
