Description

The Parish Hall, built in 1904 for Sir Hubert Parry, is located in Highnam Village. It is constructed from coursed, squared rough lias with ashlar dressings and features a tiled roof. The hall has five bays, with central projections on each side, a small projection on the left end, and a larger, later projection on the right.

The main front includes an ashlar plinth and pilaster buttresses that define the bay divisions. There are plain ashlar bands at the window sill and head levels, and the eaves are boxed in wood. The windows have rectangular leaded lights. The central projection features double doors, each with six panels, accessed by two concrete steps. The doors are framed by a plain projecting ashlar surround with a flat head and a cambered arch set forward above, which has a large projecting keystone.

Above the doors is a three-light mullioned window with a flat hoodmould and a slightly projecting ashlar verge. On either side of the central projection, there are two three-light mullioned windows. A datestone is located at the right end, partially obscured by a flat-roofed wing that has two two-light windows in its front wall and plain coping. Set back beyond the left end is a short wing with a boarded door accessed by one stone step and a single light window on the side, featuring an ashlar eaves course and a swept roof that is now felted. The hall was built to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII.
