Description

Church Lodge is a house built in 1851 by H. Woodyer for T. Gambier-Parry. It features squared, uncoursed lias with ashlar dressings and a tiled roof. The building has an irregular 'T' plan and is one and a half storeys high, with a single-storey rear wing.

The main front has a gable to the left with a four-light mullioned window that has trefoil heads on the lights and a row of quatrefoils above. Above this is a two-light window with trefoil heads and ashlar above leading to a hoodmould. To the right, there is a set-back section with a single lancet window. The porch on the wing to the right has a plinth and a boarded door accessed by two stone steps under an arch.

There is a circular turret on the right with a square-headed single-light window, and slightly above and to the right, a large, plain projecting stone with a similar window above it. This turret has a conical roof with a small dormer. A single lancet window is also on the right side.

Above the porch, there is a large triangular dormer with a three-light wooden tracery and scalloped barge boards. A lateral chimney is located at the rear behind the turret. On the left return, there is a lancet window on the right and an irregular chimney-breast with offsets in two directions, topped with a hipped stone and paired, diamond-set flues rising against the right half of the central gable. To the left, the chimney-breast is corbelled out at the first floor with a hipped stone top and diamond-set flues rising against the left side of the gable, along with a flat-headed lancet in the centre. There is also a four-light window on the left side similar to the front.

Church Lodge was built for the sacristan of the church and forms a group with the church, school, and rectory.
