Description

Dated 1859, the Old School House and the Old School Cottage were originally a school and schoolmaster's house, now converted into two separate dwellings. The building has an irregular T-shaped composition; the long arm on the left was the school, and the top bar on the right, the schoolmaster's house. It is constructed of stock brick with a modern fishscale tiled roof. The school section features a low gabled projection on the left, followed by a gabled window rising into the roof, and a dormer window. A large open timber-framed porch with a board entrance door, complete with wrought iron hinges and furnishings, is situated between this and the gabled end of the former schoolmaster's house. The ground floor of the schoolmaster’s house has a canted bay window with a fishscale tiled roof. The first floor window is a four-centred arched casement window, above which is a plaque displaying a crest depicting a lion passant and shield, along with the date 1859. All windows are fitted with glazing bars, and all gables have bargeboards.
