Description
No. 8 and No. 10 Chapel Street are a pair of houses built around 1830, featuring weavers' garrets. They are constructed of brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The buildings are three stories high and have a three-window range, with paired central entrances and a central blind window on the first floor. At the rear, there is a two-story lean-to extension that is part of the original structure. The houses have renewed six-panel doors with radial fanlights set within round-arched stone architraves that include keystones. The ground and first floors have four-pane sash windows with flat-arched brick heads, while the attic storey features twelve-pane sash windows. The attic also has four long garret windows on the rear elevation, with one retaining its original glazing and another covered by a boarded door. There are end wall stacks and an additional stack on the rear wall. Originally, the upper floor of these two houses was a single garret, which has since been subdivided and converted for domestic use.
