Description
The Tenants' Hall at Alderley Park is a meeting hall built in 1904 by Paul Phipps for the 4th Lord Stanley. It features English garden wall bond orange brick, buff sandstone dressings, and a green slate roof. The building is single-storey with a seven-bay north front, where the bays are separated by buttresses. There is a stone frieze, a moulded cornice, and a stone coped blocking course. The left two bays are blank, while the remaining bays have stone mullioned and transomed windows with applied lead glazing, except for the fifth bay, which projects forward and has a pair of similar windows divided by a king mullion. The entrance on the east front is beneath a stone coped gable and features a chamfered doorcase with a three-light mullion above a pair of oak doors, accessed by four stone steps. A plaque above the entrance reads "S of A M.K.S. 1904."
Inside, there is a porch under the east gallery. The entrance leads through a Doric portico into a hall that is open to the roof and has exposed arch-braced tiebeams. A heavily carved oak fireplace, supported by a Herm and a Caryatid, features gadrooning in the cross piece. The gallery has an oak balustrade, and there are six-panelled oak doors throughout. The windows contain stained glass coats of arms.
