Description
Church Lodge was built in 1817 for Sir J T Stanley. It features washed brick on a buff sandstone plinth with buff sandstone dressings. The building has low pyramidal lead roofs of a pagoda type and one brick chimney, designed in the Tudor Gothick style. The plan is irregular, consisting of a line of square masses that are one, two, and three stories high. The front has four bays, with the left end bay being two stories tall and featuring three-light stone mullions under label moulds. There is a one-story passage with a cambered head to a window that has the date inscribed on the lintel. The third bay is two stories high with four-light mullions also under label moulds. The right end bay is a three-story tower with single lights and a 20th-century weathervane topped with a golden grasshopper on the apex of the roof. The entrance door is located on the right side. At the rear, there is a later 20th-century gatehouse that is not included in the listing.
