Description
The churchyard walls, gate piers, and gates at the Church of St Mary have medieval origins, with extensions made in 1908 to include a mausoleum. The walls are constructed of hammer-dressed red sandstone and form a low perimeter around the churchyard, featuring heavy triangular coping and three openings. The gate piers are made of ashlar sandstone, with chamfered square bodies set on chamfered plinths, topped with slightly weathered, projecting moulded capstones. These piers now support a pair of 20th-century steel gates. The listing is noted for its group value context.
