Description

The Rectory is a building that dates from the late 18th century at the rear and features a front constructed around 1825 for Reverend Edward Stanley. It is made of washed Flemish bond red-brick with buff sandstone dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof and two brick chimneys, designed in the Tudor Gothick style. The building is two stories high with a four-bay front and a stone plinth. The left end bay projects under a gable and includes a five-light mullioned and transomed canted bay window with a label mould. Above this bay window is a three-light mullioned window, also under a hood mould. To the right, there is a one-storey porch with a four-centred arched entrance featuring a half-glazed door and panels behind. The remaining windows are either mullioned or mullioned and transomed, with some having had their mullions removed, all under hood moulds. At the rear, there are 12-pane sash windows.

Inside, the Rectory features six-panelled doors with raised fields, a well-designed staircase with square balusters and a curving moulded mahogany handrail, and box pews from the church that have been reused as panelling in parts. Some stained glass panels can also be found in the windows. Watercolours from 1818 and 1832 within the house provide a visual record of the property and depict a now-demolished continuous iron verandah.
