Description
The Gate Lodge to Marbury Hall, dated 1876, is likely designed by Lockwood. It features red random bond brick that has been painted to resemble timber framing, along with red sandstone ashlar and timber framing. The building has a hipped roof made of alternating bands of plain and fishscale tiles and stands two storeys tall.
The front facing the drive includes a central canted ashlar bay window. The ground floor has a central doorway with a 20th-century timber porch in front. At the corners, there are cross-windows with ovolo moulded surrounds. Flanking the main structure are slightly recessed single-storey wings, each with two slit lights that share a common ashlar sill. A toothed band runs along the eaves.
On the first floor, there is a central jettied bay supported by timber brackets, featuring a decoratively chamfered bressumer that displays the date. The central window is a four-light casement with an ovolo-moulded wooden surround. The walling is adorned with decorative timber framing, including arched and cusped heads on the panels and ogee-struts in the gable. The sides also exhibit similar decorative framing at the first-floor level.
The right-hand single-storey wing has a half-hipped roof with a triple-lancet window featuring cusped heads in the gablet. The left-hand wing has a gablet that projects a two-light window with cinquefoil heads. A chimney stack with four flues is located at the ridge.
