Description
This is a farmhouse, dated 1627 as indicated on a lintel, with later additions at each end and subsequent alterations, now divided into three dwellings. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone blocks, incorporating some quoins, with a roof of stone slates and some slate tiles. Three chimneys rise from the ridge. The central section (No. 3) is two bays wide, while the additions at each end are one bay, and a rear extension features a separate ridged roof. The building is two storeys high. The most significant features are found in No. 3, which exhibits large sandstone blocks at ground floor level, transitioning to smaller blocks on the first floor. A doorway is located at the right end, featuring a partially chamfered surround and a cambered lintel inscribed in relief with the date 1627. Above the lintel, at the top of the doorway, a dripstone runs continuously but is interrupted by a modern window in the first bay. There are two windows on each floor, with modern replacements at ground floor level and two 18th-century openings on the first floor. The window on the right-hand side of the first floor retains two flush mullions. No. 1, to the left, is constructed with watershot masonry and features horizontal, rectangular windows. The rear extension to No. 3 includes a recessed mullioned window of two round-headed lights on the ground floor and a three-light window with chamfered mullions on the first floor. Internally, No. 3 showcases two beams with cyma-stopped chamfer, and a similar decorative treatment is applied to all floor joists.
