Description
Sundial Cottage Simons Farm is a cottage dating from around 1700, with later extensions. It is constructed of squared rubble in courses, featuring larger flush quoins. The original stone slate roof has been replaced with concrete tiles, and there is a brick ridge stack. A former stack above the right-hand gable has been demolished. The cottage is two storeys high and has a two-unit plan. The doorway to what was once a lobby entry at the right-hand end of the front is now blocked. There is an outshot added at the rear and a barn added to the left-hand gable end.
On the ground floor, there is a large 4-light stone mullioned casement window in the center, with a smaller 3-light mullioned casement to the left, both featuring eared hoodmoulds. The blocked doorway to the right has a small single light window. On the first floor, there is a central 3-light stone mullioned casement, a smaller window to the left, and a small arched window divided by a central mullion to the right. Notably, there are remains of a large sundial set between the upper and lower central windows. The barn extension includes a wagon doorway, and there is a doorway in the right-hand gable wall with a monolith lintel.
