Description
The acoustic mirror, built around 1918, is located on the west side of Newcastle Road in Fulwell, Sunderland. This structure is made of concrete and has a U-plan shape with a sloping eastern face that features a shallow dish measuring 15 feet across. On either side of the dish, there are short ramped walls. The purpose of this acoustic mirror was to detect the sound of approaching enemy airships, providing an early warning to the surrounding area.
