Description

The Church of St Michael is a Roman Catholic parish church built in 1837 by Ignatius Bonomi, with a later addition of a porch. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with sandstone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with flat stone gable copings. The church has an unaisled four-bay nave, a west porch, and a one-bay chancel.

The west front showcases three stepped lancets beneath a semi-circular drip mould, flanked by buttresses topped with broach spirelets. There is a trefoil window at the peak of the gable and three stepped lancets on the porch gable facing the street. Inside, the original pointed-arched entrance, which is flanked by recessed columns, is now located in the porch. The western organ loft slopes and is supported by two rows of cast iron columns and wooden brackets. Historically, the church was built with a school in the undercroft, as noted by Rev. O'Gorman.
