Description
The walls, piers, and railings of the Children's Hospital in Sunderland were constructed around 1910 by W and TR Milburn. They feature brick piers and walls accented with ashlar bands, copings, and finials, along with wrought-iron railings. The gates have been removed. A low brick wall with chamfered ashlar coping connects the brick piers, which have similar coping and brick and ashlar entrance piers at the east and west entrances to the drive. The square entrance piers are banded and have central pilasters that project over the coping, supporting ball finials. The plain spike-headed railings, which have a double top rail, are mounted on a bottom rail and connect the piers.
