Description
The lodge to the Children's Hospital, built around 1910 by W and TR Milburn, is a single-storey structure designed in a T-plan. It features bright red brick with a timber-framed gable and a roof made of plain tiles. The building has four irregular bays facing the drive. A central porch includes long open sidelights flanking a recessed door. To the right of the door, there is a wide bay with a tall canted bay window topped by a timber-framed gablet, which is set under a wide gable with projecting eaves. A long fixed light is positioned to the left of the canted bay. To the left of the door, a canted bay extends through the eaves beneath a hipped roof, with a narrow bay set back that has a small partly pivoted light. The roofs are generally hipped, except for the front right gable, which features ridge and mid-pitch chimneys. The right side of the building, facing Durham Road, has one storey with four windows; the central two windows break the eaves under cornices, and all windows are sashes with glazing bars.
