Description
The lodge at East Sutton Park, built in the mid-19th century, is likely designed by C.J. Richardson. It features a combination of red and grey brick with a plain tile roof and is situated on a corner site with a compact, irregular plan. The building has a broad bay to the southeast, with short projecting bays to the north and southwest, and an irregular rear. The sides of the southeast bay are canted out to meet the north and southwest bays about halfway along their length.
The lodge is two storeys high, resting on a galletted stone plinth. A deep moulded string course rises over the ground-floor windows and continues as a frieze to the porches. The southeast gable has a crow-stepped base, while the north and southwest gables are plain, all featuring moulded brick coping and cut brick finials. There are intermediate gables on the canted sides. The core of the building has a pyramidal roof, with a moulded stack of four flues rising from the center.
The southeast bay includes three stepped leaded casements on the first floor, topped with a stepped hoodmould. The ground floor has three closely set two-light casements with top lights. Each canted side has a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, accessed by three steps, and is sheltered by an open porch supported by Doric columns, featuring a moulded semi-circular head with a finial. The interior has not been inspected.
