Description
Trinity House Banqueting Hall and Board Room is a historic building dated 1721, located in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brick with painted ground floor and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building stands two stories high and features five windows. The ground floor includes a segmental-headed passage arch in the third bay and has irregular fenestration, with three square windows and two 19th-century Tudor-style two-light windows on the left, both under drip moulds. The first floor has a covered gallery in the first bay that connects to an adjacent building, along with five elliptical-headed sash windows that have wide glazing bars, architraves with small keys, and moulded sills. A floor string and gutter cornice are present under the parapet, which is adorned with pilasters and ashlar coping.
Inside, the hall has four bays with panelled walls, and the ceiling features stucco decoration with a central oval compass. There is a re-used Jacobean overmantel with carved side panels and the central arms of Charles I, along with mostly original or early glass. The Board Room, located off the entrance passage, is dated 1791 and is likely designed by John Stokoe. It includes a half-glazed door and screen to the passage, a stucco modillioned ceiling cornice, and a chimney piece with a cornice.
