Description
Trinity House is a Grade I listed storage building, which later served as a rigging loft and dwellings, and is now used for storage and empty offices. It dates from the early 16th century and is constructed of sandstone with a Welsh slate roof. The south elevation faces Trinity House yard and features three storeys with four bays. It has wide architraves around five-panelled doors in bays three, four, and six, and the fenestration is almost regular. The building includes sash windows with glazing bars set in 20th-century architraves, a narrow casement window at the left end of the first floor, and a small square casement on the second floor with a chamfered surround. There are similarly-shaped blocked openings at intervals on the second floor. A two-storey buttress is located between the fourth and fifth bays, and there is a probable garderobe chute at the right end, which has a small square window inserted. The steeply-pitched end gables feature overlapping stone coping and eroded carved finials. A sundial dated 1721 is situated at the centre of the second floor and may have been resited. The interior displays a strong first floor supported by corbels and a king-post roof with an arched tie beam.
