Description

This is a terrace of eight houses, numbered 8 to 13, located on the east side of Brandling Park in Newcastle upon Tyne. They were built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of brick, with ashlar basements and decorative ashlar dressings. They have Welsh slate roofs and an L-shaped layout.

Each house has a basement, three main storeys, and an attic. Numbers 8 has three bays, while the others have two bays. Steps lead up to the front doors, which are 8-panelled and are set within doorcases featuring pilasters and an entablature topped with a prominent cornice. The doorcase on the left return of number 13, facing Lambton Road, has been altered; the original door and overlight with glazing bars have been set within a stone surround of a Gibbs pattern. Wedge-shaped stone lintels and slightly projecting stone sills are present on the sash windows, which contain glazing bars. A gutter cornice runs along the top of the houses. Number 12 has been altered with the addition of a Mansard roof, featuring large, square-headed dormers with architraves and segmental pediments. The other houses have attic dormers, some of which are original or from an early date. Brick chimneys are mainly located on the ridges of the roofs.
